Horse Racing Betting: Hansen Highlights Holy Bull Betting At Gulfstream
by Bodog Racebook | Jan 26 2012
The Kentucky Derby is still a few months away yet preparation for the Run for the Roses has already begun. We're winding down the first month of action at Bodog Sportsbook of prep races and this weekend's action will be highlighted by the Grade 3 Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park. The winner at the one-mile track will take home a cool $400,000, which is one of the bigger prizes so far in the 2012 Kentucky Derby prep races.
Following the Holy Bull, the next biggest purse is slated for the Fountain of Youth Stakes (also $400,000) on February 26th.

Hansen Set For DebutAll eyes will be on Hansen this Sunday as the newly crowned juvenile champion will be making his seasonal debut. He's earned more than two million in purses throughout his career while winning the Kentucky Cup and Breeders' Cup Juveniles in 2011.
Hansen has yet to lose and he's won by some impressive margins. He might face his toughest test to date on the one-turn mile on the dirty this Sunday. He started his career with a double-digit wins at Turfway Park (both wins came by more than 12 lengths) and led wire to wire at Churchill Downs for the Breeders' Cup (grade 1) win.
As for his debut at the Holy Bull, so far Hansen has done well in his workouts. Hansen posted splits of 22.58 seconds and 34.31 for his opening quarter and three-eighths before fading a little bit closer to the wire. His time for five furlongs was 59.81 and 1:14.70 for six.
According to trainer Mike Maker, it's full steam ahead for Hansen and he sees smooth sailing for Sunday's race. To date, Hansen has been a front-runner and nobody has been able to keep his pace but he's raced at his pace. Nobody has yet to push his pace early in the race, but that could change this weekend.
Algorithms, Consortium Will Push Test HansenAlgorithms and Consortium are both sons of Bernardini, the 2006 Preakness winner. After some good showings in New York, the two sons went head-to-head at Gulfstream Park on December 16th with Algorithms winning by one-length. Clearly, their experience at Gulfstream Park could be a factor.
Also expected to be in contention this week is the 2011 Florida Stallion Series winner, Fort Loudon, along with the stakes winner, My Adonis.
Hansen's quest for the Kentucky Derby starts this weekend and while his trainers clearly have an eye on the first jewel of the Triple Crown, first thing is first with the Holy Bull – and plenty of competition – this Sunday.
