by Bodog Racebook | Mar 15 2011
Bodog’s Race of the Week is Race No. 9 at
Gulfstream Park on Wednesday, March 16. It is a 1 mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies with a purse of $33,400. The top contenders include Love This Kitten, Dreaming of Rose and Zaniah.
At 3-1 odds is Love This Kitten, an Illinois-bred daughter of Kitten’s Joy. Trained by Wayne Catalano, Love This Kitten has been racing exclusively at Gulfstream Park since the start of the year and was a winner in her 2011 debut on Jan. 13. In her next race, however, she got off to a slow start and finished fifth, despite managing a late rally. She has a current record of 3-1-0 from eight starts and $60,707 in earnings. Trained by Wayne Catalano for Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, Love This Kitten will be breaking from post 8 on Wednesday and will have Julien Leparoux in the irons.
Kentucky-bred Dreaming of Rose will have to content with extreme outside post 12; she is being sent off at 4-1 odds. A Nick Canani trainee, the lightly raced Dreaming of Rose broke her maiden at third asking, doing so at Calder Racecourse on Dec. 26 in a 7-furlong maiden claimer. She was third last out (behind Love This Kitten) in a claiming race at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 13; jockey Paco Lopez will be aboard again in Wednesday’s race. Dreaming of Rose, a daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus, will be looking to build on a career record of 1-1-1 from four starts and $14,310 in earnings; her last workout was a 4-furlong breeze at Gulfstream Park on March 9 timed in 48.45.
Dubis Chaparro’s Zaniah is being sent off at 6-1 odds for Wednesday’s race. A Florida-bred daughter of Good Reward, Zaniah is making her second start of the year. She was runner-up in her 2011 debut on Jan. 27 at Gulfstream Park, a front-running effort that fell just short. Zaniah raced exclusively at Calder Racecourse last year and continues to train there, turning in a 4-furlong breeze on March 7 timed in 52.00. Javier Castellano will be piloting the 3-year-old filly (she will be breaking from post 5) and try to improve on her $27,859 in earnings and record of 6-2-1-1.
Also entered are Southern Maggie, Catch That Kitten, Valid Distinction, Put It On A Jet, Portela, Sweetprincesscharm, Runaway Joan, Dylexi and Lucky Afternoon.
