by Bodog Racebook | Feb 8 2011
Bodog’s Race of the Week is Race No. 4 at
Santa Anita Park on Feb. 10. Diamond Touch, Eddingtonforgianna, Alex T and Warren’s Hawk are all among the top contenders for this 7-furlong maiden claimer with a purse of $23,000.
John Sadler has had tremendous success early on at Santa Anita Park’s winter/spring meet and has an entrant in Diamond Touch. This Kentucky-bred son of Touch Gold was winless in 2010 but managed to earn $3,280 for owner Halo Farms. He was an also-ran in his first race of 2011 – a maiden claimer at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 20 – coming in eighth after weakening at the 7/8 pole. Diamond Touch will be cutting back in distance for Thursday’s race, and will have Rafael Bejarano in the irons.
Eddingtonforgianna is a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Eddington trained by David Velasquez for owner John Pinner. Eddingtonforgianna is lightly raced, having had just two starts (and one third-place finish) in 2010 with earnings of $2,200. Like Diamond Touch, he has just one previous race under his belt for 2011, the same maiden claimer on Jan. 20 at Santa Anita Park; he did not fare much better, coming in seventh. The shorter distance may benefit him as well. Mike Smith gets the call aboard Eddingtonforgianna.
Alex T, trained by Herbert Bacorn, will be racing at Santa Anita Park for the first time. His previous two starts were at Del Mar and he finished out of the top three in both. He has looked good in workouts at Santa Anita Park, posting a recent 6-furlong breeze in 1:14.20 on Feb. 4. The 3-year-old son of Don’t Get Mad will be piloted by Martin Garcia in Thursday’s Race.
Warren’s Hawk is a lightly raced Jorge Gutierrez trainee with just one previous career race. In that maiden claimer at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 28, he did not get off to a good start and could not recover, finishing last. A Feb. 6 workout of 4 furlongs was timed in 51.20 at Santa Anita Park. The California-bred Warren’s Hawk will have Martin Pedroza in the irons.
Warren’s Treasure, Onelasttime, Abelard, Cookie’s From Tony and Call Me Later are the other entrants.
