Bodog's Race of the Week: Race #9 at Gulfstream Park Feb. 2
by Bodog Racebook | Feb 1 2011
Race #9 at
Gulfstream Park on Wednesday, Feb. 2 is Bodog's Race of the Week. It is a 1 mile turf race for 3-year-old maiden fillies with a purse of $24,000. Cartier Lady, A Perfect Squeeze and Gamecents are among the top contenders.
The morning line favorite at 7-2 odds is Cartier Lady, a Kentucky-bred 3-year-old daughter of Point Given. She raced three times in 2010 and once already this year, a maiden claimer on Jan. 17 at Gulfstream Park. Trained by Michael Trombetta for Padua Stables, Cartier Lady will be looking to build on that performance, in which she faded too soon after making a strong three-wide bid into the stretch. Eibar Coa will be in the irons on Wednesday.
At 4-1 odds is New York-bred A Perfect Squeeze. A 3-year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid, A Perfect Squeeze has three races under her belt already and has shown rapid improvement. In her most recent outing, a maiden claimer at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 17, A Perfect Squeeze was able to rally mid-race for fourth despite being 9 ¼ lengths behind the leader early on. The shorter distance of the Feb. 2 maiden claimer means jockey Alan Garcia will need to make an earlier move to capitalize on his mount's good closing speed. Barclay Tagg trains A Perfect Squeeze for Sure Thing Stables.
At 5-1 odds is Gamecents, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Maria's Mon who is trained and owned by Linda Rice. Gamecents will be making her racing debut on Wednesday and will have the experience of John Velazquez in the irons. She turned in a recent work at Palm Meadows Training Center, going 4 furlongs in 49.90.
