    About Arapahoe Park Racetrack

If you’re in or near the great state of Colorado, your destination for horse racing is Arapahoe Park. It’s not just for thoroughbreds, either. Quarter Horse, Arabian, Paint and Appaloosa racing also take place here, three days a week (currently Friday through Sunday) between May and August. Arapahoe Park is operated by Mile High Racing and Entertainment.

You’ll find Arapahoe Park is in southeast Aurora, itself part of the greater Denver area. This track first opened in 1984 and soon closed after declaring bankruptcy, only to open again in 1992 after new legislation and new renovations. This is a one-mile oval with sandy loam for dirt – good for water retention and drainage.

The biggest thoroughbred race at Arapahoe Park is the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity, a six-furlong sprint for two-year-olds that closes out the racing season. Three-year-olds and up are featured at the $50,000 Arapahoe Park Classic over nine furlongs. Even though there is no casino on the site, Arapahoe Park has done relatively well in recent years thanks to an upswing in purse money. This track has seen a better selection of horses since Yavapai Downs in Arizona declared bankruptcy before the 2011 summer racing season.

Because this is the only racetrack in Colorado, Arapahoe Park is tailored for a relatively casual horse racing experience, bringing fans and talent from across the state and nearby states. The site includes a trailer park with room for 40 RVs. Dress code is casual; cowboy hats and boots are allowed.
