    This Week's Top Races

We’re headed to Aqueduct Racetrack this Saturday to catch the prestigious $500,000 Cigar Mile Handicap and the $400,000 Remsen Stakes.

The first race to catch this Saturday is the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap, which will be contested by horses aged three and up willing to race 1 mile on the dirt. The list of contenders is impressive to say the least, but there are two horses in particular to watch out for. The first is Plesa Jr.’s Itsmyluckyday, who’s won four of his seven starts this year including the Salvator Mile Stakes (G3) and the Woodward Stakes (G1).  Another major contender is Baffert’s Secret Circle, who placed second in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Spring (G1). We’ll have to wait until Saturday to see who stakes their claim to the winner’s share of the $500,000 purse.

Next up is the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes – a 1 1/8 mile race open to 2-year-olds.  This event is part of the road to the Kentucky Derby, and its winner is often favoured to burst out of the gates at Churchill Downs come spring. This year, Todd Pletcher’s horses have the potential to steal the show. Ostrolenka broke his maiden at Belmont Park in late September and went on to win the Sleepy Hollow Stakes, while the lightly-raced Royal Burgh will be competing for the first time since breaking his maiden at Keenland in October.
