    This Week's Top Races

The races you won't want to miss out on this week include the $1,500,000 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga and the $750,000 West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer.

Saratoga Race Course will host the $1,500,000 Whitney Handicap on Saturday, August 2. Recognized as part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're in" series, the grade 1 event is open to horses aged three and up willing to race 1 1/8 miles on the dirt. All eyes will be on Palace Malice, who's currently four for four, having won all races he's run this year including the Metropolitan (G1) and the New Orleans Handicap (G2).

Another race worth watching on Saturday is the $750,000 West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer Race Track in Chester, West Virginia. Open to 3-year-olds, the grade 2 event is run at a distance of 1 1/8 miles on the dirt. We'll be watching out for Asmussen's colt Tapiture, who most recently won the Matt Win Stakes (G3) in June; as well as Mike Maker's gelding Vicar's in Trouble, who won the Louisiana Derby (G2) in March. Though they struggled in the Kentucky Derby, their resumes are impressive and both have major potential to make it into the winner's circle.
