    This Week's Top Races

The races we'll be watching this week include the $1,500,000 Charles Town Classic and the $500,000 Illinois Derby.

Charles Town Races & Slots is set to host the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic this coming Saturday. Open to horses aged four and older, the race is run at a distance of 1 1/8 miles on dirt and offers up a hefty $1,500,000 purse. We're excited to see what Bob Baffert's seven-year-old gelding, Game on Dude, has in store for us. Though he got off to a rocky start this year, finishing fifth at the San Antonio Stakes, he bounced back to win the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap and is looking to nail another victory.

The Illinois Derby will also take place this Saturday, at Hawthorne Race Course, just west of Chicago. The Grade 3 event is open to three-year-olds willing to race 1 1/8 miles on a dirt track to secure their share of the $500,000 purse. We'll be paying close attention to Linda Rice's bay colt, Kid Cruz, who impressed many at the Private Terms Stakes when he rallied from the back of the pack to win the race. Though he had to bow out of the Wood Memorial (G1) due to a sore shoulder, we're hoping he'll be back in top shape and ready take on the Illinois Derby this weekend.
