This Week’s Top Racing Insights
Event: $300,000 Barbara Fritchie Stakes (G2)
Track: Laurel Park
Top Contender: Hot City Girl
Insights: A lot of people viewed Linda Rice’s La Verdad as the top contender at the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Stakes this Saturday, but the 2015 Eclipse Award winner has retired, opening up the field to a different Rice-trained horse. Hot City Girl is coming off a second-place finish at La Brea Stakes (G1) in December, but should get back on the winning track. The 3 year old won her previous three entries, including the Charles Town Oaks (G3) last September. In preparation for Barbara Fritchie, she’s been training on dirt at Belmont Park and ran 4 furlongs in 0:50.00. With that type of pace, she could collect her sixth career win this weekend.
